To the Ambassador of Pakistan in Athens
The NGO “Hellenic Action for Human Rights” expresses, with the present letter, its protest to the recent fierce abduction of Greek Aid volunteer Professor Athanasios Lerounis, by an armed group of 20 people, while he was sleeping in the Museum, which he had created in order to save the Kalash culture. The abducted professor lived in the area with his wife since 1995 and has founded two primary schools, three maternity centers and the Kalash Cultural Centre, which houses a primary school, a clinic and an antiquities museum of the Kalash culture.
We hereby wish to note that the immigrants from Pakistan in Greece receive a lot of help from NGOs and volunteers who respect and admire their culture, such as the abducted Professor did.
The “Hellenic Action for Human Rights”, for instance, provides pro bono legal aid, lessons on Greek language, psychologist and social worker services and intermediation for health care.
We hereby declare that, as a protest for the above mentioned abduction, for the next 7 days we will not accept new petitions for help, coming from Pakistanis in Athens. Moreover, we withhold all our rights for further actions.
Given the unclouded diplomatic relations of Pakistan and Greece, the large number of the Pakistani community members – immigrants in this country and the actual friendship of our people, we strongly believe that the Pakistani government will do its best to locate the Greek Professor and return him safely to Greece.
